HCG Weight Loss Program
WHAT IS HCG?
Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone present in a female during pregnancy and is sometimes used as a fertility agent. The use of small quantities of HCG in combination with a specific diet has been linked to weight loss. HCG specifically targets fat stores that are typically more difficult to lose.
Coupled with proper physician supervision, hormone balance, appropriate liver and intestinal detoxification, and identification and treatment of other underlying conditions fueling obesity, the HCG diet program offers patients a safe and valuable tool to add to their 'weight loss' arsenal.
THE BASIC HCG DIET PROGRAM
There are two main components of the program: Daily use of HCG (either sublingual or injections) and adherence to a very strict dietary program. The diet consists of essentially four phases:
- Phase I: The "gorging phase" (two days)
- Phase II: Strict caloric restriction (23 – 40 days)
- Phase III: Early maintenance (6 weeks)
- Phase IV: Ongoing maintenance
Depending upon how much weight you intend to lose, Dr. Edwards may prescribe a program ranging anywhere from three to six weeks. You will be monitored weekly basis and Dr. Edwards will provide you with the necessary supplements and medications necessary to safely and successfully complete the plan.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The amount of weight loss you will lose may vary but averages approximately twenty to fifty pounds in thirty to forty days. This will depend upon your physiology and the extent to which you comply with the treatment recommendations and dietary restrictions.
HOW SAFE IS THE HCG DIET
Thousands of patients have safely used the HCG to lose weight and keep it off. With proper maintenance, 85% keep the weight off permanently. The use of low dose HCG for weight loss has proven to be safe since it was first utilized for this purpose in the early 1970's. You may not be a candidate for the HCG diet if you have certain conditions:
- Abnormal menstrual bleeding
- Ovarian/endometrial cancer
- Untreated thyroid disease
- Pregnancy
- Pituitary adenoma
Dr. Edwards will review your medical history prior to initiation of therapy to ensure you are an appropriate candidate. Patients are NOT advised to pursue this or any other dietary program without appropriate physician consent and supervision.
